PURBALINGGA WRITING CLASS

writing clip artStart from this February, I have a new activity (this is what I meant “my luck” in this year): teaching Writing Class, a class about “How to write for mass media” that is held by CLC (Cinema Lovers Community) Purbalingga and Komunitas Cengloe. This class was designed as a sharing media and place for teenagers in Purbalingga to learn more about “How to write for mass media”. This class will be handled by productive writers and daily newspaper reporters in Purbalingga.

The first class begun on last Friday (February, 4th) and there were for about 20 participants (we didn’t call them as student, because we are not handling a school, hehehe…). Our first target was only 15 participants but luckily, we got more. In that first meeting, we discussed about many things about writing, such as general problem of “new writer” (penulis pemula), motivation problem, inspiration problem, and so many other things. In this first class we didn’t focus on each participant’s interest yet. But next meeting, we will start to divide the class into short story class, article class, and scenario class.

An old dream

The idea to organize and handle a writing class for teenagers in Purbalingga was firstly rising in 2006. November 2006, I and Mas Bowo from CLC held a writing competition named “Sayembara Penulisan Cerita Film Pendek (SPCFP)” for senior high school students (both of state and vocational) which had a very special reward for the winner: the story would be filmed!

After that competition end, I and Mas Bowo discussed about the continuity of SPCFP itself. Mas Bowo suggested me to build a community for writers, to encounter the need of young writers in Purbalingga. But unfortunately, I couldn’t realize it until finally Mas Bowo built his own current writing class. So, the idea of building this “community” is actually an “old dream”.

In Purbalingga itself, there are so many potential young writers. I believe that in one school, minimally, there are 2 percent of students who love writing. So I do believe that by building a writing class instead of writing school, there will be a good place to learn more about writing for newbie. If you are interested to join and participate our writing class, you may come to Posko Bambang Soesatyo Komplek Pendopo Kabupaten Purbalingga or register yourselves to Bowo Leksono (laleks_film@yahoo.com).
